Atlas activities in Nigeria are mainly coordinated by a core NiBAP management team based at APLORI in Jos and implemented via four main regional atlas teams and over 20 bird clubs spread across the different states in Nigeria.
In addition to the general coordination and management of Atlas activities in Nigeria, all data collected and entered into the database by the atlas teams and other independent volunteers undergo a vetting and verification process by some of the experienced members of the NiBAP management team at APLORI in Jos.

The core volunteer bird watching community that supports the bird atlas project has mainly been organised into Atlas Teams and Bird Clubs. Organising volunteers into these groups and communities helps to promote group motivation; improve group learning and development of bird ID skills, and facilitate the social exchange of local knowledge. Newly recruited volunteers are mainly encouraged to join the bird clubs which meet at least once a month. Most volunteers will learn about the atlas protocols and improve their bird ID skills while participating in bird club activities. When bird club members are reasonably versed in the atlas protocol and familiar with the common birds that are typical of their area, they can then join the atlas teams that often undertake monthly or quarterly atlas bashes to fill gaps in coverage. Working in these groups is additionally important for the security of volunteers while atlasing.
Currently, there are over 20 bird clubs whose members largely make up the four main Regional Atlas Teams:
